BIRTH:

When I was in high school, I was one of those girls who moved pretty easily from group to group. I had friends who were football players, friends who were theater kids, and friends who were in AP everything. The funny thing was, even though I seemed to have many people to talk to, I always felt different from everyone else.

Even today, I find that I’m happy just finding time for myself once in a while. It’s the loner in me, and I think I’ll always be that way.

Celeste is like me when I was in school. She keeps to herself; she’s considered a “freak” by many of the others. But unlike me, Celeste has a reason to feel different: she isn’t human.

I always wondered what it would be like to be unique in high school; to have abilities and powers, and perhaps a whole other world to go to where I truly belonged. But for Celeste, her other world isn’t the fairytale she wishes it to be. Lies, secrets, and betrayal enter her life, and for the first time, Celeste isn’t safe in her realm. She is forced to spend more and more time in our world, and it is here Celeste will discover she isn’t as different as she thought.
