ORIGIN:
The character of Katherine Fairmont came from actual tragedy. I think that’s why she inevitably has tragedy follow her throughout her long life.
When I was in my first year of college back in Florida, I was crossing the open campus to get to my car. It looked like it was about to rain. The sky was grey, the clouds were black, but not a drop hit the ground. I felt like I could make it before the downpour.
What I didn’t expect was the lightning. The bolt hit the ground ten feet in front of me. I felt the intense heat, and I had to shield my eyes from the blazing white-blue light. It happened quickly, but to me, it felt like forever. When the lightning retreated back into the sky, I was changed forever.
I was still alive to tell the tale. Another classmate of mine wasn’t so lucky. He was struck by the very next bolt, and died instantly.
Katherine’s life was also changed dramatically by lightning. That, coupled with another terrifying event, sealed her fate for eternity. In order to make amends with her past, Katherine must face her greatest fear in the future. But is she brave enough?
